Javier Varela — Gdańsk Regional champion (M-C)
Sand with Mega Tyranitar and Sand Rush Excadrill, Mega Staraptor Tailwind and Intimidate, Nasty Plot Gholdengo and a Sinistcha + Milotic defensive core. It won the 758-player Gdańsk Regional and is the most consistent of the three champions in Showdown simulations against the real top 8, while struggling against Mega Floette and special Fairy damage.

- Status
- Regional champion (758 Masters); B+ structure in the static model
- Pilot difficulty
- Medium-high: choosing between Mega Tyranitar and Mega Staraptor and protecting the Dragon Dance or Nasty Plot turn
- Confidence
- High for the event and sheet; medium for estimated EVs; medium-low for simulations
- Best use
- Against sun and rain (it wins the weather by coming in last) and against teams relying on Fake Out or special hits, thanks to Competitive Milotic and redirecting Sinistcha.
- Hardest matchup
- Mega Floette with Sinistcha and Incineroar (Alex Soto: 10 %) and Primarina/Raichu Y/Gholdengo (Renzo Navarro: 15 %).
- Priority change
- Do not change the champion team: pick the Mega per matchup and keep Sinistcha for setup turns.
- Next step
- Test by hand the matchup against Mega Floette and against an opposing Sinistcha Trick Room.
- Summary
- A champion built on redirection and protected setup; its risks are special Fairy damage and the lack of an answer to Trick Room.

Competitive reading
Strengths
- — Wins the weather war against sun and rain when Tyranitar comes in last.
- — Rage Powder and Hospitality protect Dragon Dance and Nasty Plot turns.
- — Competitive Milotic and Good as Gold Gholdengo punish the meta's support moves.
Weaknesses
- — Mega Floette and special Fairy damage: against Alex Soto (Floette + Sinistcha + Delphox) it wins only 10 %; Moonblast does 182–215 % to Mega Staraptor.
- — No Trick Room or Taunt of its own: teams with an opposing Sinistcha or Farigiraf remove the Tailwind advantage.
- — Excadrill and Tyranitar share Water, Fighting and Ground weaknesses: Mega Blaziken Close Combat does 210–251 % to Mega Tyranitar.
- — Liquid Voice Primarina and Mega Raichu Y with Rillaboom (Renzo Navarro): 15 % in simulation.
Game plan
- — Against sun or rain: keep Tyranitar to come in after the opposing setter and take the weather.
- — Setup lead: Sinistcha + Tyranitar or Gholdengo; Rage Powder on turn 1 and Dragon Dance or Nasty Plot.
- — Fast lead: Staraptor + Excadrill or Gholdengo with Tailwind and Intimidate, to double attack before the opponent answers.
- — Milotic comes in against opposing Intimidate or Snarl and controls with Icy Wind; Excadrill closes in sand.
Limitations
- — EVs are not public (open team lists): every stat, speed tier and calc uses estimated standard spreads.
- — It does not claim a real win rate: simulated games use the same heuristic AI on both sides: they measure how the sheets interact, not the player's skill or the real difficulty of the matchup between humans.
- — With 40 games per opponent, differences under ~15 points are not significant; extreme results (0 % or 100 %) mostly reflect the AI repeating the same plan.
- — Damage calcs are Showdown's, with no crits, no Intimidate and no screens; incoming attacks are computed without weather unless the attacker sets it.
- — Team Auditor Pro v4 is static and does not yet load the M-C ruleset: legality was checked separately with the Showdown validator.
- — The player's games, leads and Mega choices per round are not published: the plans on this page are editorial readings, not attributed history.
- — The Extremo AI counter comes from a small sample of simulated games: it is a starting point to test, not a guaranteed recipe.
counter lab
How to beat it: data measured against the real top 8
Pokémon Showdown simulations against the top 8 teams of the M-C Regionals, Showdown damage calculations and the team Analitykos' Extremo AI builds to beat it.
Overall result
67% wins in 880 simulated games against the real top 8 (22 teams)
Method: Pokémon Showdown (5b01be8), format gen9championsvgc2026regmc. The champion and each opponent are piloted by the same heuristic AI (Analitykos Hard level) with fixed seeds; 40 games per opponent against 22 top 8 teams of the Louisville, Puebla and Gdańsk Regionals. Damage: Showdown's own damage formula, no critical hits, min/max roll.
Simulated games measure how the six sheets interact under the same pilot, not how strong the champion is in human hands: the heuristic AI does not play Team Preview or Protect like a top player. EVs are not public (open team lists): standard 66-point spreads are estimated for every team. Treat win rates as direction, not as a prediction.

EV research
- Status
- inferred
- Headline
- EVs are not public: open team lists hide them.
- Source gap
- Victory Road publishes the open team list (no EVs or IVs).
- Working model
- Level 50, native Champions scale (max 32 per stat, 66 total), IVs 31 as the format requires; spread chosen from nature and role.
- Conversion
- Native 0–32 scale; no conversion to 510 EVs.
- Usage rule
- Use the spreads shown only to reproduce the calcs on this page.
- Alternatives
- — Gholdengo could be fast (Timid) instead of bulky.
- — Sinistcha could split between Def and SpD depending on the field.
