Not every member needs to win the same race. A support may only need to act before a partner, a slow attacker may be designed for Trick Room, and a bulky pivot may care more about surviving before it moves. The benchmark belongs to the job.

4. Reduce Team Preview to five questions
A short priority list is stronger than six disconnected scouting notes.
Identify the opposing win condition, the Speed-control pieces that enable it, the likely Mega option, the field setter, and the Pokémon that blocks your main damage route. These five questions normally reveal which benchmark and lead branches matter.
Then classify information as visible, inferable, or unknown. Species and displayed form options are visible; a common role may be inferable; item, investment, and move choice are usually unknown until revealed. Do not allow an inference to become a fact halfway through the turn plan.

Prepare a default lead that advances your plan across several plausible opposing leads, then a punish lead for the branch that attacks the default hardest. Select the backline at the same time: switching and preserving field turns are part of the opening, not repairs made afterward.
For each lead, write an exit route. If the opponent reveals the fastest branch, unexpected priority, or an unfavorable Mega, which slot Protects, switches, or trades? An opening without an exit is a prediction, not a plan.
